luxury electric car - 2009 Cadillac Converj unveiled in Detroit

luxury electric car - 2009 Cadillac Converj unveiled in DetroitDetroit — It’s electric, it can run 64 kilometers without gas and no, it’s not the Chevrolet Volt.

It’s the Cadillac Converj, a new luxury electric car unveiled by General Motors at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Jan. 11.

The new upscale car is a prime example of what GM is capable of when it commits itself to product excellence, said Bob Lutx, GM vice-chairman of global product development.

The company wanted the Converj to have “appeal based on beauty and proportions alone” regardless of the fact the car will be electric, Mr. Lutz said.

And GM wanted to show luxury can be electric, he said.

No details were released about production time-lines for the new vehicle. Converj was the last of many cars showed off during GM’s first news conference of the auto show. Other future products featured included the Chevrolet Orlando, a seven-seater slated to be in production by 2011 and the Chevrolet Spark, touted to get 40 miles per gallon.

GM will hold another news conference fromthe auto show on Jan 12. The show runs until Jan. 25. ¼/p>
